At least 15 people were killed and 19 others injured in a major road accident early Monday when a long-distance passenger bus crashed on a toll road exit in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Emergency responders confirmed that the vehicle overturned after losing control while exiting the main tollway, causing heavy casualties and significant injuries to travelers on board.
Local search and rescue officials reported that the accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, when visibility was still low and traffic conditions were challenging. Teams from the rescue agency were dispatched to the scene to assist with evacuation and transport the wounded to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Photos from the crash site show damaged sections of the bus and rescue personnel working to clear the road, while family members and bystanders gathered in the area as authorities attempted to stabilize the situation. Emergency services noted that several of the injured were in serious condition and required urgent medical care.
The toll road exit where the crash took place has been temporarily closed to allow investigators to determine the cause of the accident and to remove wreckage. Preliminary observations suggest that road conditions, vehicle speed, or driver fatigue could have played a role, but officials have stated that a full inquiry will be conducted to establish the precise factors leading to the tragedy.
This incident marks one of the deadliest road accidents in the region this year and has raised renewed calls for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of transport regulations across Indonesia.
